Caravaggio 2025 Wins XII Edition of L'Arte di mostrare l'Arte Prize
The exhibition "Caravaggio 2025" has been awarded the XII edition of the L'Arte di mostrare l'Arte prize, organized by Marilisa Allegrini at Villa Della Torre in Valpolicella. Curated by Thomas Clement Salomon, director of the Gallerie Nazionali di Arte Antica, the show features 24 works by Michelangelo Merisi da Caravaggio from Italian and international collections, including three private loans, some exhibited for the first time. Notable novelties include the first-time display of the "Ritratto di Maffeo Barberini" (considered the first modern portrait in art history) and the "Ecce Homo," the latest addition to Caravaggio's catalog. The exhibition also opened the Casino Boncompagni Ludovisi, housing Caravaggio's only mural painting. Jury president Stefano Baia Curioni praised the show's scientific rigor, curatorial quality, and its resonance with the venue (Palazzo Barberini and Rome). The prize, now in its twelfth year, was established by the Allegrini family after acquiring Villa Della Torre in 2008. The exhibition attracted over 450,000 visitors and was co-curated with Francesca Cappelletti (director of Galleria Borghese) and Maria Cristina Terzaghi, with support from Intesa San Paolo. The award ceremony took place at the Renaissance Villa Della Torre.
