Carabinieri and Police Hunt for Stolen Paintings from Castelvecchio Museum
Italian authorities are searching for paintings stolen from the Museo di Castelvecchio in Verona on November 19, 2015. Two carabinieri and two police officers have been tracking the stolen artworks across Moldova and Ukraine for over a month. The alleged perpetrators have been arrested, but the paintings remain missing. On April 28, at the Eurojust headquarters in The Hague, the public prosecutor, along with Roberto Di Benedetto (head of the mobile squad) and Antonio Coppola (commander of the TPC operational unit), will meet with the Ukrainian general prosecutor and judicial police to request greater cooperation. Meanwhile, Prime Minister Matteo Renzi visited Naples to sign the Patto per la Campania, a €9.5 billion investment plan for infrastructure, culture, and tourism until 2020. Renzi also visited the Salerno maritime station, designed by Zaha Hadid, which was inaugurated on the same day.
