Capodimonte reopens contemporary art wing with Burri, Warhol, Twombly
On July 14, the Museo di Capodimonte in Naples reopens its contemporary art section, displaying works acquired from the 1970s-80s through gallerist Lucio Amelio and superintendents Raffaello Causa and Nicola Spinosa. The collection includes pieces by Alberto Burri, Mario Merz, Daniel Buren, Carlo Alfano, Sol LeWitt, Joseph Kosuth, Andy Warhol, Michelangelo Pistoletto, Luciano Fabro, and Jannis Kounellis. A temporary loan of a 1960s Cy Twombly work is also featured. The reopening celebrates restorations of Burri's Grande Cretto Nero (1978), Giulio Paolini's In ascolto (2005), and Luigi Mainolfi's Terra della Pace (1990-1991). Director Sylvain Bellenger aims to restore Capodimonte's global prominence, citing its 140-hectare park and 17 historic buildings. The project is supported by Artecard, offering access to Naples' contemporary art scene.
