Capodimonte Masterpieces Travel to Venaria Reale in Turin
Over sixty masterpieces from the Museo di Capodimonte in Naples are on display at the Reggia di Venaria Reale in Turin until September 15, 2024. The exhibition, titled 'Capodimonte da Reggia a Museo,' is curated by Sylvain Bellenger and Andrea Merlotti and housed in the Sale delle Arti. The Venaria Reale complex, a UNESCO World Heritage site since 1997 and opened to the public in 2007 after restoration, features Baroque architecture by Amedeo di Castellamonte. The show includes works by Guido Reni, Francesco Solimena, El Greco, Caravaggio, and Andy Warhol, tracing the connection between the Savoy and Bourbon dynasties. The first room, 'Artisti ‘napoletani’ per la corte sabauda,' features loans from the Musei Reali di Torino by Solimena, Sebastiano Conca, Corrado Giaquinto, and Francesco De Mura. The exhibition narrates the history of the Palazzo Reale di Capodimonte, established in 1785 as Naples' first museum with regulated public hours, originally housing the Farnese collection inherited by Charles of Bourbon from his mother Elisabetta Farnese.
