Capitolo Riviera: brutalist 5-star hotel opens in Nervi, Liguria

Capitolo Riviera, a new 5-star hotel in Nervi, Liguria, has opened as the latest hospitality project by Parisotto + Formenton Architetti. The hotel occupies the former 1960s Astor hotel, which closed during the pandemic. Owners Paolo Doragrossa and Sabine Ganthous aimed to create a park with a hotel where nature plays a leading role. The architecture preserves original materials like exposed reinforced concrete (with brutalist or 'nerviana' notes), wood, plaster, and Finale stone. The hotel has 37 unique rooms, a pool, spa, and event space. Interiors feature Italian design pieces by Castiglioni, Mangiarotti, Cassina, and Flos, plus artworks from Galleria Satura di Genova, including works by Emilio Scanavino, Stefano Grondona, and Véronique Massenet. A fragment of a 1970s ceramic map by Genoa Architecture School students remains behind the reception desk. Carpets are by cc-tapis, hand-knotted in Nepal.
