Capitan Harlock Returns to Italian Cinemas for 45th Anniversary

Capitan Harlock, the iconic intergalactic pirate created by Leiji Matsumoto, returns to Italian cinemas for a special event marking 45 years since the character's debut in Italy. The film 'Capitan Harlock – L'arcadia della mia giovinezza' will be screened exclusively on May 20, 21, and 22. Directed by Tomoharu Katsumata and first released in 1982, the movie explores the origins of Harlock's character and features historic series characters such as Tochiro, Emeraldas, and Mayu. The story follows Harlock's fight to liberate Earth from invaders from Illumidas, aided by his friends. The film is considered a pilot for the TV series 'Capitan Harlock SSX – Rotta verso l'infinito'. The screening is part of the 'Anime al Cinema' project by Nexo Digital, distributed in collaboration with Yamato Video. The event comes just over a year after the passing of Matsumoto. The character first appeared in a manga in 1977 and gained popularity through the 1978 anime series directed by Rintaro. In Italy, the series' theme song by La banda dei bucanieri, written by Luigi Albertelli with Vince Tempera, contributed to its success.
