Cantadora Gallery Opens in Rome with Taring Padi Exhibition
A new contemporary art gallery named Cantadora will open in Rome on October 1, 2025, located at Piazza Galeria 7 between San Giovanni and Appia Antica. Directed by gallerist Enrico Palmieri and curator Flavia Prestininzi, the space launches with the exhibition "Organise, Educate and Agitate" by the Indonesian collective Taring Padi. The show features works created during a residency starting September 4, 2025. During the residency, Taring Padi will participate in public events, including the National Assembly of Entertainment Workers on September 8 at La Pelanda (Mattatoio) as part of the Short Theatre festival. There, they will activate the work "People's Justice / الشعوبعدالة" (2024), a large collective banner created with collectives The Kitchen, Globe Aroma, Learning Palestine, Subversive Film, and The Question of Funding, featuring a centuries-old olive tree as a symbol of resistance and Palestinian liberation. Another major work is a new monumental banner made with the Sikh community from Punjab, active in the Lazio countryside and often exploited by agromafias. The exhibition runs until December 2025. The gallery's 2026 program will include a young Argentine artist working with textiles and charcoal on colonialism, followed by a recent Italian academy graduate. The name Cantadora references a Castilian term for a storyteller and the legendary Sardinian cantadora Candida Mara.
