Canova's 40,000-page manuscript archive goes online
The Biblioteca Civica di Bassano del Grappa has digitized and made freely accessible online the entire Fondo Canoviano, comprising over 40,000 manuscript pages by Antonio Canova (Possagno, 1757 – Venice, 1822). The archive includes letters, notes, sonnets, travel diaries, a price list of his works, his English lesson notebook, and correspondence with Napoleon Bonaparte. The high-definition digitization project aims to preserve the originals and promote global access. Partners include Mida Informatica (scanning), Hyperborea (cataloging), Haltadefinizione and Memooria (image management), and Horizons Unlimited (digital library management). The digital archive is available at https://archiviocanova.medialibrary.it/. The launch coincides with the bicentenary of Canova's death.
