Canon's Imaging Profits Surge 78.7% on Compact Camera Demand

economy-finance · 2026-07-28

In the second quarter, Canon experienced a 35.2% increase in operating profit compared to the previous year, largely due to a remarkable 78.7% rise in profits from its imaging division. Imaging net sales climbed by 17.7%. The company has revised its net profit outlook for FY2026, raising it from 456 billion yen to 465 billion yen, while also increasing its imaging profit forecast from 176.5 billion yen to 191.5 billion yen. This growth is attributed to strong demand for compact cameras, especially the PowerShot GX7 Mark III and SX740 HS, along with higher sales of full-frame models like the EOS R6 Mark III. Canon plans to boost compact camera production in the latter half of the year, aiming for over 50% sales growth. The digital interchangeable-lens camera market is projected to reach 6.45 million units this fiscal year, with the recent R6 V launch expected to support ongoing revenue growth. Canon now targets an 11.6% increase in full-year revenue for its camera segment.
