Canon Adds Flash Support to EOS R6 V via Firmware Update
Canon has released firmware version 1.1.0 for both the EOS R6 Mark III and EOS R6 V cameras, with the headline addition being flash support for the R6 V. Previously lacking a mechanical shutter, the R6 V shipped without flash capability, a notable omission for hybrid shooters. The new firmware enables flash use but with limitations: maximum sync speed is only 1/60s, and the camera lacks a traditional five-pin hotshoe, working only with Canon's Multi-Interface-equipped Speedlite units. Other improvements include support for the BR-E2 Wireless Remote Controller, SDK support, bug fixes (FTP errors, interval shooting issues, USB problems), and enhanced operational stability. The R6 III also receives BR-E2 and SDK support, plus new menu options for autofocus in close-up demos and grid display during movie recording—features already present on the R6 V.
