Canobardin's Moof Gym Prototype in Madrid: A Replicable Architectural System
Canobardin, the practice founded by Bárbara Bardín and Julio Cano, has completed Moof Fitness Studio in Pozuelo de Alarcón, Madrid. Located at Avenida de Europa 16, the project functions as a prototype for a future network of fitness centers, each sharing the same architectural DNA while adapting to different sites. The brief called for a unisex gym defined by calm and clarity, avoiding the sensory overload typical of commercial fitness environments. The defining architectural feature is perforated metal sheeting used as a spatial organizer, structuring the relationship between floor training and strength training zones without interrupting continuity. The construction system is a prefabricated dry-assembled framework that can be built, dismantled, and reconfigured—an architectural Meccano. The material palette includes Melongelb RAL 1028, technical white, and electric blue, each with a specific role. The facade operates as a double skin, filtering interior-city relations. The project joins a growing body of work redefining fitness studio design, alongside Sulkin Askenazi's Alterego Sutura gym in Mexico City, Uchronia's Athletic Bath Club in Bordeaux, and Simone Ferkul Projects' Solis Movement in Toronto. Canobardin demonstrates that the most ambitious brief for a gym is to be replicable without losing quality.
