Cannes 2026: 'Fjord' Wins Palme d'Or, Mungiu's Second Win
The 79th Cannes Film Festival wrapped up with Cristian Mungiu's 'Fjord' taking home the Palme d'Or, marking his second win following '4 Months, 3 Weeks and 2 Days' in 2007. This film portrays a Pentecostal couple relocating to a village by a Norwegian fjord. The Grand Prix was awarded to Andrey Zvyagintsev for his political thriller 'Minotaur', set in Russia in 2022. Valeska Grisebach's 'The Dreamed Adventure' received the Jury Prize, while Marie Clémentine Dusabejambo's 'Ben'Imana' earned the Caméra d'Or. Best Director honors were jointly given to Javier Ambrossi and Javier Calvo for 'La bola negra', alongside Pawel Pawlikowski for 'Fatherland'. Best Actor was awarded to Emmanuel Macchia and Valentin Campagne for 'Coward', and Best Actress to Virginie Efira and Tao Okamoto for 'All of a Sudden'. Emmanuel Marre won Best Screenplay for 'Notre salut', and Federico Luis's 'Para los contrincantes' was recognized as Best Short Film. The jury was chaired by Park Chan-wook.
