Cannes 2019: Bellocchio, Almodóvar, Dolan in Competition

The 2019 Cannes Film Festival (May 14–25) unveiled its official selection, described by general delegate Thierry Fremaux as 'romantic and political.' The poster honors Agnès Varda, and the Palme d'Or will be awarded to Alain Delon. Opening film is Jim Jarmusch's zombie comedy 'The Dead Don't Die' starring Tilda Swinton and Tom Hiddleston. Competition highlights include Pedro Almodóvar's 'Dolor y Gloria,' Xavier Dolan's 'Matthias & Maxime,' Terrence Malick's 'A Hidden Life,' and Marco Bellocchio's 'Il traditore'—the sole Italian entry. Bellocchio's film follows Tommaso Buscetta, the Mafia boss turned informant. Out of competition, 'Rocketman' (Elton John biopic), Asif Kapadia's Maradona documentary, and Nicolas Winding Refn's Amazon series 'Too Old to Die Young' screen. Jury president is Alejandro González Iñárritu.
