Cannes 2018: Cate Blanchett President, Selfies Banned, Kubrick Restoration

festival-fair · 2026-05-04

The 71st Cannes Film Festival (May 8–19, 2018) will open with the psychological thriller 'Todos Lo Saben' directed by Asghar Farhadi, starring Penélope Cruz, Javier Bardem, and Ricardo Darín. Cate Blanchett will preside over the main jury, while Benicio Del Toro chairs the Un Certain Regard jury. A special Cannes Classics screening of Stanley Kubrick's '2001: A Space Odyssey' in a restored 70mm print (supervised by Christopher Nolan) will mark the 50th anniversary of its Washington premiere. Festival director Thierry Fremaux has banned selfies on the red carpet, citing a 'degeneration toward the trivial' of the ceremony. The official press conference is set for April 12 in Paris.
