Canicula: Video Art at Venice Biennale Explores Contemporary Crises

exhibition · 2026-06-22

The 'Canicula' exhibition, showcasing eight site-specific video installations, is being held at the Complesso dell'Ospedaletto in Venice, organized by Fondazione In Between Art Film. Curated by Alessandro Rabottini and Leonardo Bigazzi, this exhibition marks the conclusion of the 'Trilogy of Uncertainties,' following 'Penumbra' (2022) and 'Nebula' (2024). The title evokes the peak of summer heat and addresses themes of visual saturation, environmental challenges, and political strife. Artists featured in the exhibit include Lawrence Abu Hamdan, Massimo D'Anolfi, Martina Parenti, Roman Khimei, Yarema Malashchuk, Janis Rafa, P. Staff, Wang Tuo, Yuyan Wang, and Maya Watanabe. It is part of the 61st Venice Biennale.
