Candy Snake Gallery opens in Milan's Isola district with 'Weird Matter' group show

Candy Snake Gallery, a new commercial gallery specializing in international contemporary art trends, opened on September 15, 2021, at Via Porro Lambertenghi 6 in Milan's Isola district. The gallery is led by Andrea Lacarpia, a curator known for founding the non-profit space Dimora Artica in 2013 and directing exhibitions at Edicola Radetzky between 2016 and 2017. Lacarpia transitions from non-profit to commercial practice, emphasizing a focus on emerging artists who engage with contemporary visual culture through vital, digitally-infused languages. The gallery operates both physical and digital spaces, using Instagram and its website to present works. The inaugural exhibition, 'Weird Matter,' takes its title from a hypothetical form of matter in cosmological theories that achieves near-black-hole density under gravitational force. The group show features works by Filippo Cegani, Matteo Gatti, Naomi Gilon, and Bogdan Koshevoy, five artists who explore hybrid, paradoxical forms through painting, sculpture, and installation, addressing atavistic anxieties and monstrous figures. The exhibition runs through October 31, 2021.
