Candice Lin's Infected Mythologies at GAM Milan

Candice Lin's exhibition for the Arnaldo Pomodoro Sculpture Prize is taking place at the GAM – Galleria d'Arte Moderna in Milan from April 14 to June 18. This showcase features installations that explore phallic and vulvic motifs, inspired by medieval plague talismans. Visitors will see painted faux-marble columns, textile chinoiserie, chastity belts, and glory holes. Lin's diverse artistic style includes sculpture, drawing, and video, using materials like indigo, lard, and ceramics. Her previous work includes 'Pigs and Poison' (2020), which toured New Zealand, China, and the UK, and 'Seeping, Rotting, Resting, Weeping' (2021) at the Walker Art Center. For the 2022 Venice Biennale, she displayed 'Xternesta,' featuring demonic ceramic totems, and her recent piece, 'Lithium Sex Demons in the Factory' (2023), focuses on possession among workers in Asian electronics factories. Lin’s research also explores indigo's colonial history and influences from artists like Ann Haeyoung and Miljohn Ruperto.
