Canaletto top lot at Pandolfini auction in Florence

Pandolfini auction house held two sales at Palazzo Ramirez-Montalvo in Florence on September 29-30, 2022, featuring 32 lots of exceptional historical and artistic interest and Venetian art from the 16th to 19th centuries. The top lot was Canaletto's "Il bacino di San Marco dalla Riva degli Schiavoni," painted after his return from London, estimated at €800,000–1.2 million and sold for over €960,000 to a private collector on the phone. Giandomenico Tiepolo's "Gruppo di Pulcinella" (1765) fetched €498,000. Michele Marieschi's "Palazzo Ducale dal bacino di San Marco" sold for €245,000 after a competitive bidding war among multiple phone bidders. Francesco Guardi's "Capriccio con arco in rovina e mura di paese" went for €98,200 to a remote buyer. In the notified works session, a pair of "Scene turche" by Giovanni Antonio Guardi, formerly in Marshal Schulenburgh's collection, sold for €126,000. Frescoes by Annibale and Ludovico Carracci from Palazzo Zambeccari, "La morte di Didone" and "L'incendio di Persepoli," achieved over €150,000. Two lots constrained by the Soprintendenza of Bologna—a scagliola floor by Pietro Baseghini (1629) for over €40,000 and a rare 18th-century "Nuovo Mondo o Scatola Magica" from Perugia—sold for €50,400.
