CAN Art Fair Madrid Debuts at Matadero, Rebranding Urvanity

During Madrid's art week, the former Urvanity fair has been rebranded as CAN Madrid, launching its first edition at the Matadero cultural complex. Founded and directed by Sergio Sancho alongside Sara Coriat, the fair occupies a large tensile structure and coincides with the debut of Forma, a design fair in the same venue. CAN Madrid is the tenth edition of the initiative, which previously operated under the name Urvanity (later UVNT) since 2017; the name change aligns with the existing CAN fair in Ibiza. The event features around thirty galleries, mostly Spanish with some international participation, plus a small curated design section. Known for its festive atmosphere, the opening offered free beer and cocktails, with live music and a DJ. Gallerists reported making sales while tipsy. The fair emphasizes painting, colorful pop works, ceramic sculptures, and residual street art references, with improved quality over previous Urvanity editions.
