CampoBase's Debut Exhibition 'There's a monster coming!' in Turin

exhibition · 2026-05-04

The young curatorial collective CampoBase in Turin has launched its first exhibition project, 'There's a monster coming!', featuring interventions by artists Giulia Poppi, Irene Adorni, and Flavia Tritto. The show deconstructs the traditional group exhibition format into three components: scenography, sound, and performance. Each artist works with one of these elements to intervene in spatial and relational stratification processes. The project draws inspiration from historical references such as Plinio De Martiis's 'Teatro delle mostre' at Galleria La Tartaruga in Rome in 1968. CampoBase, active since January 2019 and largely self-funded, plans to continue programming through December 2019 with formats like crit, screening, and focus. Upcoming events include participation in ArtVerona's 'i10' section for independent spaces in mid-October and organizing 'House of Displacement,' a three-day festival in late September across various Turin venues. Giulia Poppi's installation 'SplashSplapCiaff' uses silicone rubber to create a tactile, erotic geography, with pink neon lights altering spatial perception. Irene Adorni's 'You have more microtubules than a paramecium in your brain' explores the transition from potential to actual relationships through audio narratives and quantum coherence concepts. Flavia Tritto's performance 'Phántasma' reveals the analog processes behind her video installations, examining visibility and perception.
