CAMPO, IDENTITÀ ARTISTICHE: Open-Air Museum on Lake Garda Merges Land Art and Memory

A new permanent land art project, CAMPO, IDENTITÀ ARTISTICHE, has launched in the medieval village of Campo di Brenzone on Lake Garda, Italy. Curated by Matteo Chincarini and promoted by Teatro degli Ulivi, the open-air museum features site-specific installations in an olive grove surrounding the nearly uninhabited village, accessible only on foot via an ancient mule track. The project aims to create a respectful dialogue between contemporary art and the landscape, avoiding spectacular or invasive gestures. Current works include Tempo sospeso by Matteo Lucca, Un lago en el cielo by Oscar Dominguez, Forma Fluens by Emanuele Fasciani, and Eri Era Ero by Lorenzo Montinaro. A new installation, Water-Licked Rocks by Chiara Lecca, will be added in September 2026. The project is conceived as a growing organism, with each new work becoming part of a permanent collection, building a shared cultural heritage over time. Chincarini stated that the initiative seeks to bring contemporary art to a place that tells time and memory, amplifying the landscape's meaning rather than transforming it. The project expands the role of Teatro degli Ulivi, a natural theater already hosting concerts and cultural events, using art as a tool for territorial interpretation, intertwining memory, research, and sustainability.
