Campari’s Graphic Legacy: Munari and Depero in Focus at Galleria Campari
Galleria Campari in Milan presents 'BOLD! Declinazioni tipografiche Campari: Munari, Depero e oltre,' an archival exhibition showcasing over 160 works including posters, sketches, books, and drawings from the company’s golden age of typography and graphic design. The centerpiece is Bruno Munari’s 1964 poster 'Declinazione grafica del nome Campari,' created for the inauguration of Milan’s first metro line. The poster, a kinetic and optical artwork, features the Campari logo in red letters that appear to compose and decompose with the train’s speed. Curator Marta Sironi notes that Munari, a lifelong futurist, used the commission to break with tradition and create an immersive piece. Other featured artists include Fortunato Depero, Sergio Tofano, Marcello Nizzoli, Giorgio Dabovich, Pino Tovaglia, and Lucia Pescador. The exhibition also includes loans from institutions such as the Apice center of the University of Milan, notably Tullio d’Albisola’s lithographed tin 'L’Anguria Lirica' illustrated by Munari. The museum, housed in the historic Campari production site converted by Mario Botta and Giancarlo Marzorati, is directed by Anita Todesco and preserves a unique archive of labels, bottles, negatives, and films, including recent advertisements by Sorrentino.
