Campano Frío: Cloud Forest Restoration and Shelters by AR-AR Martínez
In 2024, the architecture firm AR-AR Martínez Arquitectura y Paisaje, under the direction of Carlos Alberto Martínez Valencia, finalized a landscape initiative known as Campano Frío in Villamaría, Caldas, Colombia. Spanning 162 square meters, this project features two contemplation shelters and focuses on reforesting and rehabilitating a section of cloud forest. Situated along the Condor Route (Ruta del Cóndor) within the Río Claro sub-basin and the Río Chinchiná basin, the area was previously cleared for invasive pasture grass due to cattle grazing. The design team comprised MEC Arquitectura (Manuela Eble Cárdenas) and Fiallo Atelier (Jesús Alfonso Fiallo Arango), with curation by Valentina Díaz and photography by Teodoro Posada. This effort contributes to wider initiatives aimed at restoring the local cloud forest ecosystem.
