Camille Claudel and Bernhard Hoetger: The 1905 Exhibition Recreated

The Musée Camille Claudel in Nogent-sur-Seine will recreate the 1905 exhibition that brought together works by sculptors Camille Claudel and Bernhard Hoetger. Originally held at the gallery of art dealer and publisher Eugène Blot in Paris, the exhibition featured Claudel's La Valse and Hoetger's La Tempête, among other works. The upcoming show, running from September 12, 2026, to January 10, 2027, will display nearly ninety works—sculptures, drawings, paintings, and photographs—in a scenography evoking a Belle Époque Parisian gallery. This marks the first public presentation in France of Hoetger's early pieces. The exhibition also explores the divergent paths of the two artists: Claudel, who ceased creating the following year and was later institutionalized, and Hoetger, who returned to Germany and had a prolific career as a sculptor, painter, architect, and designer, including controversial associations with Nazism. The show aims to shed light on Claudel's final creative years before her silence.
