institutional · 2026-04-20

In Yaoundé, Cameroon has celebrated the opening of its first contemporary art gallery, a milestone for the nation's cultural landscape. The inaugural exhibition features forty pieces created by twenty-three Cameroonian artists and will be on display until 31 July. This project is the result of a partnership between the French embassy and the Cameroonian Ministry of Arts and Culture. Funding for the gallery's construction and renovation came from the Debt Reduction and Development Contract (C2D) established between Cameroon and France. This venue is the first of its kind in the country, promoting contemporary art through a framework that merges cultural infrastructure with economic collaboration.
