Camera Makers Urged to Share Tariff Refunds with Customers

In a guest opinion piece on PetaPixel, photographer Robert Sirotnik, supported by the editorial staff, urges Canon, Nikon, Sony, and Fujifilm to distribute tariff refunds to their customers. Following the Supreme Court's decision to overturn IEEPA tariffs in February 2026, US Customs initiated a refund process for importers. Canon projected a $294 million loss from tariffs in H2 2025, while Sony experienced a $682 million drop in operating income. Companies increased prices by double-digit percentages, attributing this to tariffs. An estimated $166 billion could be refunded to importers. Costco has promised to share refunds with its members, and FedEx and UPS have begun filing claims. Camera manufacturers have yet to reveal their plans.
