Camera Animata: Animation Exhibition at Mole Vanvitelliana, Ancona

festival-fair · 2026-04-27

The eighth edition of Festival Cinematica in Ancona, dedicated to touch and the return to contact, features the exhibition 'Camera Animata' curated by Bruno Di Marino at the Mole Vanvitelliana. The show highlights the craftsmanship of animation, a hallmark of artists trained at the Istituto d'Arte di Urbino, including Roberto Catani, Gianluigi Toccafondo, and Simone Massi. Works by Mara Cerri and Magda Guidi, Claudia Muratori, and Beatrice Pucci explore the uneasy and uncanny through stop-motion, video, and sculpture. A homage to Rosa Foschi, an Urbino-born animator active in the late 1960s and early 1970s, concludes the exhibition. The festival also includes talks on corporeality and new media with guests such as Aldo Grassini, Derrick De Kerckhove, and Maria Rosanna Fossati, as well as an international videodance competition. The exhibition transforms the former lazzaretto into a space for contemporary art, emphasizing the Marche region's role as a center for animation.
