Camden Wins Bloomberg Public Art Challenge with A New View

award · 2026-05-04

Bloomberg Philanthropies has awarded $1 million each to five U.S. cities through its Public Art Challenge. Among the winners is Camden, New Jersey, which will launch A New View, a public art exhibition in the city's most degraded areas. The project targets illegal dumping along transit routes including the Port Authority Transit Corporation high-speed line, RiverLine light rail, and Camden GreenWay. Illegal dumping costs Camden $4 million annually. Michael R. Bloomberg stated that public art can unite communities and transform dumpsites into artworks. Francisco Moran added that the project creatively addresses illegal dumping. Other winning cities are Anchorage (Alaska), Coral Springs (Florida), Jackson (Mississippi), and Tulsa (Oklahoma). The Public Art Challenge has been held annually since 2014.
