Camden Town Hall becomes cultural hub with Purcell and Tom Dixon
After a decade-long renovation led by Purcell, London's Camden Town Hall (built 1937, administrative until 2018) has reopened as a multidisciplinary cultural centre. Designer Tom Dixon reimagined the neoclassical interiors, creating two exhibition spaces on the first floor: Vision Hall (13m ceilings, arched windows) and Inner Space (marble floors, chrome steel). The ground floor hosts talks, readings, music, fashion, theatre, dance, and debates on technology and AI. The project is run by Bottaccio, founded by Elio D'Anna and now led by Joseph D'Anna and Emilie Edberg. The annual programme, Town Hall Presents, focuses on cultural polyfunctionality, innovation, sustainability, community participation, and 'big ideas' discussions. Chief Curator & Visual Arts Director Virginia Damtsa, a former ballet dancer at the Opéra de Paris and founder of Riflemaker gallery (2003 with Tot Taylor), will curate four annual exhibitions. The first, 'Her Stories Untold' (early 2026), features Jonathan Yeo, Carolina Mazzolari, Rebecca Fontaine-Wolf, Wen Wu, Richard Wathen, and Poppy de Havilland, with charity The Circle (founded by Annie Lennox) organising collateral events. A second show, 'Silent Voices', addresses repression and democracy, connecting to the Town Hall's activist history, including the first Caribbean Carnival in 1959 by Claudia Jones.
