Calvin Klein's Raf Simons unveils 100 limited Feltri armchairs at Design Miami/Basel

architecture-design · 2026-05-04

On June 12, 2018, Calvin Klein, under chief creative officer Raf Simons, inaugurated an installation at Design Miami/Basel. The setup reconstructs an American barn containing a new series of Cassina's Feltri armchairs, designed by Gaetano Pesce in 1987, with coverings selected by Simons. Simons, an admirer of Pesce's work, created 100 limited-edition, numbered Feltri armchairs for the Miami fair, upholstered with original American quilts from the 19th and 20th centuries. He describes this as a "cultural correspondence" between design, Made in Italy, and American historical heritage. Simons, former creative director of Jil Sander and Dior, has led Calvin Klein's creative strategy since 2017 and recently won the CFDA Fashion Awards for womenswear and menswear.
