other · 2026-04-19

From February 24 to 26, 2022, TU Dresden will host an international conference titled "The Global GDR – A Transcultural History of Art (1949-1990)." This event will delve into the artistic ties between East Germany and socialist countries across Africa, Asia, and Latin America, focusing on the travels, exhibitions, and cultural portrayals by artists. The conference is structured into four segments: Foreign Cultural Policy, Transcultural Aesthetics of Socialism, and Transnational Networks. Co-organized with the Academic Heritage of TU Dresden and SKD, it aligns with an exhibition at the Albertinum. Early-career researchers are encouraged to submit abstracts by October 1, 2021, related to art history and cultural studies, aiming to connect academic discussions with artworks and explore art restitution issues.
