Călin Dan Named Director of Romania's National Museum of Contemporary Art
Călin Dan, an accomplished artist and art historian, has been named the new head of Romania's National Museum of Contemporary Art (MNAC) in Bucharest. He takes over from Mihai Oroveanu, the museum's founding director, who died of a heart attack in August 2013. Since 1976, Dan has held various positions, including journalist, art critic, and cultural manager. He was a member of the artist collective subREAL and was the chief editor of Arta magazine. His past roles include serving as artistic director at the Soros Centre for Contemporary Arts in Bucharest and as a consultant for the Netherlands Foundation for Visual Arts, Design and Architecture. Additionally, he worked as an artistic director for Lost Boys Interactive in Amsterdam and co-developed the educational strategy for the new media department at the Art University of Bucharest. His efforts in the 1990s were pivotal in advancing Romanian visual arts. This appointment was officially announced on 16 February 2015.
