Calder and Fischli/Weiss in Dialogue at Fondation Beyeler
Fondation Beyeler in Riehen/Basel presents "Alexander Calder & Fischli/Weiss," a curated dialogue between the American sculptor Alexander Calder (1898–1976) and the Swiss duo Peter Fischli (b. 1952) and David Weiss (1946–2012). The exhibition, curated by senior curator Theodora Vischer, was developed in close collaboration with the Calder Foundation in New York and with Peter Fischli, who also lent works from his private collection. The show juxtaposes Calder's dynamic mobiles, such as "Snow Flurry" (1950), with Fischli/Weiss's static yet playful installations, including "Rat and Bear (Sleeping)" (2008) and "Walls, Corners, Tubes" (2012). The exhibition runs until September 4, 2016, and is expected to attract many of the nearly 100,000 annual visitors to Art Basel, framing exclusive gatherings during the global art week.
