Cai Guo-Qiang's Volcanic Art at Mamac Nice

Cai Guo-Qiang, renowned for his gunpowder art and installations, is set to showcase his work at the Musée d'Art Moderne et d'Art Contemporain de Nice (Mamac) from June 12 to November 28, 2010. Originally from Quanzhou, where he was born in 1957, he moved to Japan in 1986 and currently resides in New York. His creations, deeply influenced by Chinese heritage, seek to connect with audiences worldwide. Among his significant works are 'Inopportune: Stage One' (2004), 'Head On' (2006), and 'Transient Rainbow' (2002). He also designed pyrotechnics for the 2008 Beijing Olympics and has been developing 'Extraterrestrial Projects' since 1989. For the exhibition in Nice, he plans to unveil a new gunpowder drawing and a public explosion performance, in addition to 'Reflection – A Gift from Iwaki'.
