Cagliari's first open-air art gallery Galleria del Sale turns 10

cultural-heritage · 2026-04-27

Galleria del Sale, Cagliari's first open-air contemporary art gallery, celebrates its tenth anniversary in 2024. Founded in 2014 by the nonprofit Urban Center (established 2012) and curated by a group of local artists led by Daniele Gregorini, the gallery transformed a former salt transport route connecting Molentargius Natural Park to the Su Siccu waterfront into a public art corridor. In August 2014, about ten artists created fifteen works. Today, the gallery features murals and installations by local and international artists, drawing global interest. The project has evolved into the multidisciplinary collective hOMe Network, also curated by Urban Center, focusing on smart cities and local development. Sponsorship from Cagliari's cultural department and brewer Ichnusa has supported recent works. In 2024, new pieces are planned, including a mural by Mauro Patta on reforestation. The collective also manages residencies at Corte delle Dolomiti hotel in Borca di Cadore and continues school workshops and guided tours. Gregorini emphasizes public-private partnerships as key to social innovation.
