exhibition · 2026-04-23

The 'Cage's Satie: Composition for Museum' exhibition at the Musée d'art contemporain de Lyon features works by John Cage and La Monte Young. On the first floor, visitors can explore a random arrangement of eleven compositions by Cage dedicated to Erik Satie. The second floor displays Cage's 'The First Meeting of the Satie Society' (1985-1992) and 'James Joyce, Marcel Duchamp, Erik Satie: an alphabet' (1982), both reinterpreted by Mikel Rouse. La Monte Young and Marian Zazeela's 'Dream House' (Lyon, 1990) is featured on the third floor. This exhibition is open until September 30, 2012. Cage, known for his anarchistic views, celebrated silence and randomness, while Young pursued perfect just intonation. Additional related exhibitions can be found in Salzburg until October 7, 2012, as well as in Rotterdam and Paris.
