Caceres + Tous wraps circular Lombok home in terracotta plaster

architecture-design · 2026-05-10

Indonesian architecture practice Caceres + Tous has completed House Kala, a circular residence on a hilltop in Lombok, Indonesia. The dwelling features curved walls coated in textured, terracotta-toned plaster that mimics the local soil color, referencing vernacular clay brick buildings. Raised on a stone plinth, the home maximizes 360-degree views of the sea and forest through full-height glass doors, while a central patio enclosed by curving walls provides privacy. Co-founder Nico Caceres described the design as a private refuge balancing outward openness with an enclosed sanctuary. The semicircular living, dining, and kitchen area faces southwest for sunset views, opening onto a terrace with a shallow infinity pool and a swimming pool. Bedrooms to the northeast capture sunrise, opposite a games room and cinema. A circular corridor wraps the central patio, which features a small pool beneath a circular opening for rainwater. Glazed skylights punctuate bedrooms and a lounge seating area. Interior materials include dark stained timber ceilings and bedroom walls, custom terrazzo floors, and black aluminum window frames. Caceres founded the firm in Indonesia in 2015 with interior designer Kiko Tous.
