Cabraqimera: roller-skating choreography at Centre Pompidou
On March 18 and 19, 2022, Catarina Miranda, a Portuguese artist born in 1982 and known as Cabraqimera, showcased a roller-skating performance at the Centre Pompidou. The piece, also named Cabraqimera, features a group of four performers clad in fluorescent zebra-print bodysuits, delving into themes of speed, power, and the dynamics of the body, where falls are incorporated as part of the choreography. Miranda investigates altered states of the body and the impact of velocity, utilizing fluorescent lighting to illuminate spaces and convey a sense of extreme otherness. Her previous works include Dance piece (2021) for MediaLab 2021, Dream is the dreamer (2019-2021), and SHARK * Celestial Emporium of Benevolent Knowledge (2015), the latter being part of the REI trilogy, culminating in Boca Muralha, a duet inspired by the Furies.
