Cabin Art: Rome Police Booths Become Canvases for Young Artists

exhibition · 2026-04-27

The Mayor's Office of Rome, through its Youth Policies Office and in collaboration with Zètema Progetto Cultura, has launched the Cabin Art call, selecting six young Italian and international artists aged 18 to 35 to transform disused police booths into artworks. The booths, located at Piazza Vittorio Emanuele II, Via Vico Jugario/Via Petroselli, Via Casilina/Via di Tor Pignattara, Piazzale Labicano, Circonvallazione Gianicolense/Via Ottavio Gasparri, and Piazza di Villa Carpegna, are steel structures measuring about 1.80×1.80 meters, raised 60 cm from the street. Artists must submit proposals by November 24, 2022, indicating which booth they intend to work on. Techniques allowed include illustration, street art, lettering, or mixed media. Each selected artist will receive €6,500 plus VAT. Lorenzo Marinone, the Mayor's delegate for Youth Policies, stated that reclaiming disused spaces through youth and street art is a great opportunity for urban regeneration combining talent and creativity. The projects must promote communication, territorial impact, cultural and social redevelopment, integration, respect for differences, and environmental sustainability.
