Cabaret Typographie Wins Silver at European Design Awards 2023

The Italian collective Cabaret Typographie won silver in the Typography category at the European Design Awards 2023 for their installation "Invece di stelle ogni sera si accendono parole" (2022) at the Vetra Building in Milan. The work, inspired by a poem by Umberto Saba, is part of the Vetra Passage cycle curated by Helga Marsala with Artribune Produzioni. The project transformed a covered passage connecting Parco delle Basiliche to the Duomo area with a double wallpaper in pink and blue lettering, interacting with a neon sculpture by Patrick Tuttofuoco. The building, owned by AXA IM Alts and redesigned by Il Prisma, achieved LEED Platinum certification. Educational partner NABA involved six students from the Visual Arts department directed by Marco Scotini, with Tuttofuoco as tutor. A monograph on Cabaret Typographie was published by Artribune Produzioni. The gold in Typography went to Briefcase Type Foundry for "The Heritage of Oldrich Menhart," a digital archaeology project reviving fonts by Czech type designer Oldřich Menhart. The silver was shared ex aequo with JUNO GmbH & Co. for "The Munken Creator" campaign. The ED-Awards, based in Brussels, are supported by the International Council of Design and judged by European design critics.
