Cabaret Typographie transforms Milan passage with typographic wallpaper

architecture-design · 2026-04-27

The graphic design collective Cabaret Typographie, active between Milan and Paris, created a typographic wallpaper installation for the covered pedestrian passage of the Vetra Building in Milan. The project, titled "Invece di stelle ogni sera si accendono parole" (2022), is the first chapter of "Vetra Passage," curated by Helga Marsala for Artribune and promoted by AXA IM Alts. The building, acquired and renovated by AXA IM Alts, had its restyling led by architecture firm Il Prisma. In November 2021, a neon sculpture by Patrick Tuttofuoco, "X," was installed on the facade. For the wallpaper, Cabaret Typographie conducted a theoretical-practical workshop with students from NABA, Nuova Accademia di Belle Arti, held at NABA and at the printing workshop Bonvini1909. The students explored their personal perceptions of Milan's identity, which were transformed into words and graphic signs. The wallpaper, made of fiberglass by beWall, is designed to evoke movement and contact, and shares a color palette with Tuttofuoco's installation. A video by Pietro Leone documents the collective and the workshop, with editing that mirrors the graphic style of Cabaret Typographie. The collective's members are Laura Dal Maso, Mauro De Toffol, and Tommaso Pucci.
