Ca' Pesaro Honors Gino Rossi with Restored Exhibition Spaces
Ca' Pesaro in Venice has dedicated a tribute exhibition to Gino Rossi (1884-1947), one of its most impetuous and overlooked artists. Two restored rooms on the top floor host a small but rich selection of works by Rossi, a painter among the 'young rebels' who found refuge and resonance at Ca' Pesaro in the early 20th century. The building, donated to the City of Venice in 1898 by Felicita Bevilacqua La Masa, was intended to promote modern and contemporary art, especially for new generations. The ground floor and mezzanine became the ideal venue for exhibitions of the Opera Bevilacqua La Masa, organized from 1908 under Nino Barbantini, then 23-year-old director of the Galleria d'Arte Moderna and secretary of the Opera. The exhibition features paintings and graphic works by Rossi alongside pieces by Arturo Martini and Umberto Boccioni, reflecting a climate of renewal and rupture from 19th-century Venice. Curated by Elisabetta Barisoni and Luca Massimo Barbero, the show draws from the collections of Ca' Pesaro and Fondazione Cariverona, reviving an essential chapter of 20th-century Venetian history.
