Ca' Granda's Secret Art Collection Opens to Public in Milan

exhibition · 2026-04-27

The art collection, I Tesori della Ca' Granda, at the Fondazione Ca' Granda Policlinico in Milan is now accessible to the public at no charge. Located in the Historical Archive and administrative offices at via Francesco Sforza 28, the exhibition features five rooms showcasing 23 portraits by Lombard artists spanning the 17th to 20th centuries, including notable figures such as Giovanni Segantini, Francesco Hayez, and Mario Sironi. A standout piece is Segantini's sole commissioned work, the Ritratto di Carlo Rotta. Additionally, five sculptures honor early benefactors like Duke Francesco Sforza. The collection also contains 19th-century medical instruments. This display coincides with the Festa del Perdono, a tradition initiated by Pope Pius II in 1459. Policlinico president Marco Giachetti noted that the permanent exhibition seeks to reconnect the community with the institution's philanthropic history, which supports the new Nuovo Policlinico, a largely self-financed public facility. Open Monday through Saturday from 10 AM to 6 PM, with mediation services provided by the Touring Club.
