Ca' Foscari University Turns 150 with Tiepolo 3D Experience
Ca' Foscari University of Venice, founded on August 6, 1868, celebrates its 150th anniversary in 2018 with a series of events, exhibitions, and meetings. The academic year opens on February 20 at Teatro La Fenice, with President Sergio Mattarella attending and an honorary doctorate in Economics awarded to British economist Sir Richard Blundell. Among the initiatives is a 3D holographic experience in the Aula Magna Silvio Trentin at Ca' Dolfin, using Microsoft HoloLens to immerse visitors in 18th-century Venice and view ten paintings by Giambattista Tiepolo originally housed there. A hologram of a nobleman from the Dolfin family greets visitors. Other projects include studying events of 1868 concurrent with the university's inauguration, renovation of Aula Baratto by architect Carlo Scarpa, and recurring events like Incroci di Civiltà, Art Night, and the Ca' Foscari Short Film Festival. A contest challenges participants to tell Ca' Foscari's 150 years in a 150-minute short film. Additionally, the university will open representative offices in New Delhi, Istanbul-Baku, Russia, and Brussels under the Ca' Foscari International Offices project to promote Italian culture and language abroad.
