ByteDance's Seedance model slashes AI comic drama production costs in China

ByteDance's Seedance AI model is revolutionizing China's comic drama industry by reducing production times from months to weeks and cutting costs dramatically. At a Shenzhen video production base, creators use Seedance to generate comic dramas, compressing traditional animation schedules. The AI short-drama market is projected to reach 40 billion yuan (US$5.9 billion) this year, with over 600 million viewers in the first half of 2024, according to DataEye. Zhou Xiangxiang, founder of the Shenzhen community, reports global audiences from Southeast Asia to Latin America. Production costs for an 80-minute comic drama drop to as low as 25,000 yuan (US$3,694.20) using Seedance, versus at least 160,000 yuan for traditional animation, per Guosen Securities. Zhou's team prefers Seedance for its ease of learning, enabling standardized training for AI content creators.
