Bygdetrapen: Norway's Rural Trap Duo Redefining Hip-Hop

Norwegian rap duo Bygdetrapen, consisting of 22-year-olds HC (Sander Henriksen) and Subaru (Øyvind Kirkhus), are gaining international attention with their debut album 'Mixtape', released on the first Monday in May. Hailing from Bø in the Telemark region, they rap in a heavy local dialect retaining elements of Old Norse, blending it with trap music. Their sound, described as hypnotic and rooted in rural life, avoids autotune. The duo's style incorporates neon reflectors, camouflage, and balaclavas, inspired by local workwear brands like Blåkläder and Biltema. They gained traction in January with the single 'Arctic Cat', inspired by a snowmobile brand. Their first live performance was at the Munch Museum in Oslo, drawing 500 people, organized by the collective Suieverse. Upcoming shows include Stockholm in June and several Norwegian festivals. The album features contributions from Swedish producers Gud and Woesum. Bygdetrapen's hyper-local lyrics reference small towns and inside jokes, aiming to create something entirely new.
