Buzzati's 'Seven Messengers' Inspires Group Show at Marsèlleria

exhibition · 2026-05-05

Marsèlleria in Milan hosts 'I sette messaggeri dell’arte,' a group exhibition curated by Daniele Perra and inspired by Dino Buzzati's short story 'The Seven Messengers.' The show transforms the narrative of a king's son exploring an endless kingdom into a personal, intimate journey through contemporary artworks. Francesco Arena presents '1 kg di terra di Lampedusa in 175,49 mq,' a work where a kilogram of soil from Lampedusa is scattered across the gallery floor, gradually diminishing. Francesco Simeti installs a monumental curtain that suggests a continuation of the path, while Paolo Canevari's 'Monumento della Memoria (Sette Messaggeri)' features seven black books displayed like ancient artifacts, serving as an archive of memory. Other artists include Andrea Sala with 'La Latteria' (2017). The exhibition avoids literal interpretations of Buzzati's text, instead allowing each artwork to function as a stage in a personal voyage. The show references T.S. Eliot's quote: 'We shall not cease from exploration, and the end of all our exploring will be to arrive where we started and know the place for the first time.'
