Buy Sellf's Retro-Futurist Exhibition at CAPC Bordeaux

The CAPC Musée d'art contemporain in Bordeaux presents 'Retour vers le futur / Buy Sellf', an exhibition running from February 6 to May 16, 2010. Curated by Fred Latherrade, the show celebrates the artistic collective Buy Sellf, founded over a decade ago by Latherrade, Sébastien Blanco, and Laurent Perbos. The group began with a mail-order catalog and evolved into producing and exhibiting works that explore objecthood, fiction, bricolage, virtuosity, and humor. The exhibition's title nods to Robert Zemeckis's 'Back to the Future' trilogy, balancing retrospective and forward-looking elements. It features emblematic works by artists such as Vincent Laval (a video of a beer cap moved by a pin across a table, 2002), Mathieu Mercier (a double-socket lamp, 1999), Bruno Peinado ('Antipure', 2003), Serge Provost (a puddle in cast aluminum, 2004), and Nicolas Milhé (a video repeating 'Sylvie's' exclusion from 'The Weakest Link', 2004). Emerging artists contribute projects like Stéphanie Cherpin's dismantling and reactivation of a children's house, Frédéric Plateus's 3D graffiti, and Sylvain Rousseau's enigmatic desk lamp. Other participants include Wilfrid Almendra, Simon Boudvin, Yvan Clédat & Coco Petitpierre, Patrice Gaillard & Claude, Anne Colomes, Tony Matelli, Guillaume Poulain, Anita Molinero, Fayçal Baghriche, and Beni Bischof. The exhibition uses a loose sci-fi theme to explore temporal dimensions and hybridity, avoiding rigid constraints.
