Buy-Sellf: Mail-Order Art Catalogue at La Faïencerie, Bordeaux

The third edition of Buy-Sellf, a mail-order catalogue for artistic productions, was presented at La Faïencerie in Bordeaux from February 5 to 22, 2002, and later at the Palais de Tokyo in Paris from March 6 to 31, 2002. Created by Laurent Perbos, Sébastien Blanco, and Frédéric Latherrade, Buy-Sellf functions as a direct link between artists and buyers, mimicking traditional mail-order catalogues in its communication codes, sales conditions, and delivery. It features a diverse array of objects, services, and editions, including a glass safe with an easy-to-guess combination by Laëtitia Matrat, a Medusa wig by Carol Bimes, a corner broom by Patrick Sauze, a cardboard excavator by Sylvie Réno, a lead puddle with on-site casting by Serge Provost, a diving board for slam-diving by Arno Elfort, an inflatable Babybel tower by Guillaume Poulain, varied flooring and wall offerings by Luc Léotoing, and revolutionary urban furniture by the Opaque agency. Critic Didier Arnaudet notes that Buy-Sellf embodies a desire to produce, show, sell, and exist, but suggests it could benefit from sharper incongruity and more aggressive social critique, as its energy sometimes remains playful rather than explosive.
