Bustamante, Craig, Salmon: Three Solo Shows in Paris

Three established artists—Jean-Marc Bustamante, Stephen Craig, and Jacqueline Salmon—held simultaneous solo exhibitions in Paris galleries during winter 2001-2002. Bustamante showed photographs and sculptures at Nathalie Obadia and Daniel Templon, capturing Japanese transitional spaces where urbanity overwhelms nature. Craig exhibited at Gilles Peyroulet, presenting photographs of Hamburg fairgrounds alongside architectural maquettes referencing Russian Constructivism. Salmon displayed 'Le Hangar' at Michèle Chomette, a photographic series of the Sangatte refugee camp run by the Red Cross, documenting the precarious shelters of thousands of refugees from Afghanistan, Iraq, Iran, and Russia attempting to reach England. Salmon's work deliberately avoids human subjects to critique humanitarian photography and caritative discourse, instead focusing on the architecture of displacement. The exhibitions ran from November 2001 to March 2002.
